National Finn & Classic Finn

The following was proposed and accepted at the 2005 AGM ....
In all Australian regattas in which Finns are eligible to compete as a class, the Association will record results, and award and publicize prizes, for sailors under two additional categories of equipment; the National Finn and Classic Finn. This is additional to and will not affect overall or open class results for which all sailors will remain eligible.
National Finn
To be eligible for the National Finn category in a regatta:
1) Hull originally manufactured in the calendar year which is 11 years prior to the calendar year in which that regatta takes place, or earlier; AND
2) Mast originally manufactured in the calendar year which is 6 years prior to the calendar year in which that regatta takes place, or earlier.
Sails and other equipment are open.
National Finns shall carry the letter N above the Finn symbol on their sails.
Classic Finn
To be eligible for the Classic Finn category in a regatta:
1) Hull originally manufactured in the calendar year which is 26 years prior to the calendar year in which that regatta takes place, or earlier; AND
2) Mast wholly manufactured from materials other than carbon fibre.
Sails and other equipment are open.
Classic Finns shall carry the letter C above the Finn symbol on their sails.
The third and subsequent races held on any single day of a regatta will be treated as if they had not taken place for the purposes of determining results in the Classic Finn category.
For both the National and Classic categories details of the eligible equipment, including the name of the manufacturer and year of manufacture (or reasonable estimates if these are not known), must be notified to the National Secretary prior to the regatta commencing. This information, including the name and home club of the sailor, will be placed on a register on the Association website.
All sailors must be current financial members of the Association in order for their results to be recorded and to be eligible for prizes under the National and Classic Finn categories.
The National Secretary has the absolute discretion to deem certain equipment to fall within either the National or Classic Finn categories even if it does not meet the above requirements. Examples of where this discretion might be exercised, but without limitation, include: equipment which has been seriously damaged and repaired, home-built equipment, and new equipment of comparable cost to eligible equipment.
