Guyot hat erfolgreich eingeparkt, während die Konkurrenz 150 sm weiter westlich vorbeiziehen kann. Ich hatte ja bereits darauf hingewiesen, dass es gefährlich ist, sich sehr weit von den Konkurrenten zu entfernen. In 50 % der Fälle geht so etwas schief. Um statt des kürzesten Kurses einen weiten Westbogen zu segeln, ist ein hohes Mass an mentaler Stärke aufzubringen. Dazu sind allerdings auch Balls erforderlich.

So sieht die Kurslinie aus, wenn sich Nervosität und Unsicherheit breit machen 🙂

Unsere Jungs, Robert und Phillip sitzen immer noch in der Tinte, d.h. in dem dunkelblauen Bereich der Wetterkarte. Lange wird es nicht mehr dauern, bis sie als Rote Laterne das Schlusslicht bilden werden, es sei denn, dass ein Wunder geschehen sollte.

NEWS ON BOARD – Spinnaker broken

Yesterday, while GUYOT environnement – Team Europe was leading the fleet and sailing in a light wind, the spinnaker was torn.
A bit disappointed to lose this sail at this stage of the race, Robert explains:
„We were under spinnaker, that big nylon sail, the most fragile one you can have on board. This sail gives us a good advantage in lighter winds and on downwind angles.
I was sleeping, when suddenly an alarm started ringing. Everyone rushed to the deck and we discovered that the spinnaker was torn.
It was quite surprising because there wasn’t much wind. We did a good job and we managed the crisis. We slowed down and put the boat almost head to wind, then we caught the pieces of sail that was flying around the foil and the big piece that was in the water. There was 10% of the sail left at the top of the wire near the mast. We managed to get it all back and not leave anything in the water.
It took us like 8 or 10 minutes to get everything back on board. A record time. We then hoisted the A3 and are still sailing with it. The team did a great job !
It’s a shame to lose the sail so early in the race, especially now that we’re sailing in 6 knots of breeze. Our last option didn’t pay off, we’ll probably lose some ground. There are still 2500 miles to go before Cape Town, our motivation is still intact and we’ll fight until the end. »

In the next few hours, the wind is expected to increase, and the team hopes to catch the first low pressure system along with the others. Their choice to stay east is risky and they know it. For now, they remain motivated and in the game so keep going!

Der Tracker sieht die Guyot noch vorn. Da Robert und Philipp aber schon das Heck der Konkurrenten sehen könnten, liegen sie bereits auf dem letzten Platz. Leider wollten sie ja nicht auf mich hören 🙂
