17:44 – Yoann Richomme, der mit der Paprec Arkea Zweiter der letzten Vendee Globe wurde, gibt jetzt richtig Gas und wird vermutlich bald die Führung übernehmen. Biotherm wird ihm dies aber nicht leicht machen. Die Tachoanzeige der Paprec Arkea hängt übrigens bei unrealistischen 30,5 Knoten.
The final push came in the last 12 hours. “We were neck and neck with Malizia for a while last night. Then there was a really big speed run all the way to the waypoint to the west. We were really fast in those conditions and had a nice manoeuvre, a gybe set around the mark. I think we selected the right sail as well and maybe they had a smaller sail. We reacted a lot faster and gybed south. Everything went right for us and we got the right angle coming into Porto.”
14:24 – Biotherm und Paprec Arkea setzen entsprechend ihrer Ankunftszeit gestaffelt das Rennen fort. Allagrande Mapei konnte nicht tief genug segeln und muss vor der Zielankunft noch drei Halsen durchführen.
Der Tracker ist inzwischen stark verbessert worden.

On the Fly-By: It’s a very unique format, this sort of fly-by three hours here and a rolling start. Have you ever done anything like this before or what do you think?
It’s really strange because you cross the line, but it’s not finished because in three hours it starts again. Normally you cross the line and you’re just enjoying the people and now you have the music really loud. When we arrived it was really strange, but we’re trying to stay focused and get the boat ready for the start. That’s our first objective.

09:57 – In wenigen Minuten wird Biutherm das Zwischenziel vor Porto erreichen und damit die Führung weiter ausbauen.

08:20 – Gestern um 13:55 erwähnte ich: „Paprec Arkea kann vor Porto vermutlich noch vorne mitmischen. “
Dies ist tatsächlich eingetreten, denn Paprec Arkea ist mit dem höchsten Speed aller Boote auf Platz 2 vorgerückt. Malizia rutschte dagegen auf Platz 4 ab. Boris‘ Ankündigung, Malizia könne das Race gewinnen, war wohl doch etwas zu optimistisch. Dies gilt wohl auch für Allagrande Mapei, derzeit auf Platz 5.
The Porto-Matosinhos stop is unusual: the boats will cross the points gate, earning seven points for first place, six for second place, etc. which is equal to the Leg 1 scoring. Then they are held for exactly three hours to come ashore before restarting from the same line toward Cartagena.
During their time at the Fly By in Matosinhos, the teams will dock, come ashore for an arrival ceremony, a chance for food and drink and some media interviews.
Eine nette Geschichte erzählt uns übrigens die sympathische Amelie Grassi:
On Biotherm, Amélie Grassi enjoyed her own battle with Roberts, her husband on the rival Holcim boat. “I slept half the time and I worked the other half. At the start of the day, I was overtaken by my husband and at the end, I overtook him again. So overall it’s been a great day!”
